Cairngorm Weather

The following links give weather information that may be helpful in planning your days in the Cairngorms.

For current conditions for skiing or walking on the Cairngorms see the Mountain Railway site and the Met Office weather station at Aviemore or view the webcams below. There is also an automatic weather station on the summit of Cairngorm (see  today’s report below).

The outlook for the hills is given in the Met Office East Highlands forecast or the Mountain Weather Forecast (pdf so will take time to load) and for the next 6 days from Snow-Forecast. Predictions can be obtained from the Scottish Avalanche Information Service.

A more general 5 day forecast for Kingussie can be obtained from the BBC and UK Met Office. Low level conditions and historical data can be obtained from the Strathspey Weather Station in Cromdale near Grantown-on-Spey.

Traditional Met Office synoptic charts, including the analysis chart for today and 24h forecast plus much other useful weather information from around the world are collated by Georg Mueller in Germany. Metcheck is also a useful site for weather info and links.

Cairngorm Webcams

Unfortunately many useful webcams have disappeared or become unreliable this year. The Mountain Railway weather page may show the current views from the bottom station and the Ptarmigan. There are also a cameras at the Lecht (on the eastern side of the Cairngorms near Tomintoul) and the Squirrelcam at the Glenmore Cafe may show the amount of fresh snow at 320m.
